Plaza de España

It’s one of the most emblematic squares in Valladolid (Castilla y León). It’s a bustling area where many people gather, surrounded by notable buildings such as the Bank of Spain and the García Quintana Public School.

Plaza de España is also home to the Church of Peace, one of the city's most modern churches, with its Art Deco style and a façade in the shape of a huge rainbow. In the centre of the square is the “Children's Fountain”, which depicts a globe revolving around sculptures known as Bimbis.

From Monday to Saturday, a market is set up selling fruit, vegetables, fruits and vegetables, and flowers, while once a month, it becomes a green market.

Plaza Mayor of Valladolid

Approximately 600 metres from the hotel is one of Spain’s largest squares, the Plaza Mayor of Valladolid. Today, it’s the primary gathering spot for tourists and locals alike, owing to its rich history and important social role in the city.

When walking through this square, you’re treading on a medieval marketplace, once bustling with merchants, trades, and celebrations. After a fire destroyed the city centre in 1561, reconstruction began, making it Spain’s first regular Plaza Mayor. Today, the red ochre pavement and the surrounding architecture recreate the square’s appearance from the 16th century.

Today, it is framed by historic buildings and café terraces, offering the perfect setting for festivals and cultural events year-round, as well as a welcoming spot to relax and soak in the city’s vibrant atmosphere.
